Holiday Turkey Giveaway (Monday, November 20, 2023)

As the calendar year comes to a close, HACR would like to thank our partner organizations and celebrate the success of our first annual Holiday Turkey Giveaway. This event was a great success!

Through this event, HACR was proud to be able to distribute holiday meal kits to 93 Housing Authority families. Each Housing Authority of the City of Richmond (HACR) family who attended the event was gifted a frozen holiday turkey weighing approximately 15 lbs., in addition to a combination of several shelf stable side dishes including green beans, yams, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. No HACR family was turned away, as there were enough kits for every HACR participant who attended.

We look forward to serving even more families next year! The Giveaway this year took place from 10 AM to 1 PM on Monday, November 20th, in the auditorium of the Reverend James M. Townsend Memorial Building. 

Each individual who received a holiday turkey meal kit did so after speaking with staff from HACR and Ivy Tech about the Family Self-Sufficiency program. When this event is offered in 2024 with continued support from our partners, HACR hopes to make it open not only to HACR residents but also to the general public.
